As a part of project activities, a pre-screening workshop was organized at BNCA for Indian students on 9th August 2024 between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. The pre-screening workshop aimed at disseminating the information about ‘Capable’ project among UG and PG students in the built environment and encouraging students to participate in the project. The intent of the workshop was to introduce the participants to the concept of ‘circular economy’, discuss the areas of research in ‘Circularity in the built environment’ and to select the students to participate in the research project.

A total of 52 students from UG and PG courses from Dr. B. N. College of Architecture, Pune  and Indian Institute of Bombay along with 10 faculty members participated in the workshop. The workshop was conducted in hybrid mode. Dr. Anupa Manewa, Principal Investigator (UK) and Dr. Mohan Siriwardena, Co-Investigator (UK) from Liverpool John Moores University, UK, Dr. Bakul Rao, Principal Investigator (India) from IIT, Bombay and Dr. Vaishali Anagal, Co-Investigator (India) guided the students. Dr. Amruta Garud coordinated and anchored the workshop.  

Dr. Anurag Kashyap, Principal, BNCA launched the ‘Capable’ website and addressed the audience. He congratulated all the team members for conducting such ‘student-centric’ research project. He highlighted that this research project will create a pool of young researchers for developing the leadership in the circular economy in the built environment.

Dr. Anurag Kshyap launched the project website. Dr. Sharvey Dhongde, Vice Principal, BNCA and Dr. Sujata Karve were present for the website launch.
Dr. Amruta Garud introduced the students to the investigators of the project and mentors. She also briefed about the eligibility criteria and selection process for participating in the project.
Dr. Vaishali Anagal explained the course outline, course content and expected outcome of the project to the students.
Dr. Bakul Rao introduced students to the concept of circular economy and its relevance to the sustainability.
Dr. Anupa Manewa and Dr. Mohan Siriwardena elaborated on the broad research areas in the circular economy in specific to the built environment and explained probable topics that students can take up for the research under this project.

Faculty and students of BNCA attended the program in-person mode, while the students and faculty of IIT, Bombay joined the workshop in online mode.

We are announcing a ‘Pre-screening workshop’ for selecting the students to participate in the research project titled ‘Capacity Building in Built Environment Sustainability Research (CAPABLE)’. 

The project aims to develop a programme to involve young researchers through micro-research grants for undergraduate and master students. Indian and UK Institutions have jointly designed a joint project tailored to the needs and interests of students and industry. A cohort of 20 undergraduate/master students from disciplines related to Energy, Sustainablity & Climate Change with equal student representation from India and the UK will be selected for the research project.

The workshop aims to disseminate the information about UKIERI+SPARC project among UG and PG students in the built environment and discuss the areas of research in ‘Circularity in the built environment’.

Pre-requisite for attending the program.
* Student should be UG/PG student for the academic year 2024-25 studying in India /UK from the discipline of the built environment
* Student should hold a valid passport till March 2025
