Discover Mumbai’s Timeless Heritage with Dr. Sharvey Dhongade
On the 29th of December, an immersive Heritage Walk took participants through the historic streets of Fort, Mumbai, led by heritage conservation expert Dr. Sharvey Dhongade, Co-convenor, INTACH (Maharahtra State) and convenor (Pune, Region) . This exclusive walk guided attendees through some of the most iconic landmarks that defined Mumbai’s colonial past, unraveling the architectural marvels, cultural heritage, and untold stories that shaped the city’s identity.
The journey began at the historic Flora Fountain, a symbol of Mumbai’s colonial legacy, followed by a visit to Hutatma Chowk, a site that held deep political significance. From there, the group proceeded to St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai’s oldest Anglican church, which had stood the test of time since 1718. Moving ahead, participants explored the grandeur of Horniman Circle and the Asiatic Library, a testament to Mumbai’s literary and architectural brilliance. The walk continued into the vibrant Kala Ghoda Art District, a cultural hub adorned with heritage buildings and artistic expressions, before culminating at the iconic Regal Cinema, Mumbai’s first Art Deco theatre.
This walk provided an extraordinary opportunity to gain deep insights into the city’s history through the expert guidance of Dr. Sharvey Dhongade. Participants heard exclusive stories and little-known anecdotes that brought the past to life, making it a perfect experience for history enthusiasts, students, and explorers alike.
